What to expect

当たりが柔らかく、香りの良い「京都銘木北山杉」のお箸作りと、型紙を使って絵柄を染める友禅のお箸入れ作りのセットです。さくっ、さくっと軽快に木を削り出すたびにほのかな香りが辺りに広がります。ぜひ、京都で日本の伝統文化を体験してください。
「丸益西村屋」さんは、明治三十八年に初代西村松之助さんが手描友禅を業として以来百余年間、和装の染色一筋のお店です。

創業から京の都で、工芸染色の文化継承一筋。そこでもっとみなさんに染色の世界を知って頂きたいとの想いから、京町家「繭」を再生。同じ場所で京友禅体験工房、風呂敷包み方体験教室やお箸作り体験教室を開始。ぜひ、京都で日本の伝統文化を体験してください。どの体験も、1名から予約可。もちろんご自身の作品はお持ち帰り可能です（一部別送）。

工程1
最初はお箸作り。
北山杉の角材を小刀で荒削りします。

工程2
次に豆カンナを使ってキレイに整えていきます。
この作業が大事です。

豆カンナ。小さいカンナを使います。
女性にもとっても使いやすくなってます。

やすりで表面をなめらかに仕上げます。
綺麗に仕上げましょう。

お箸のでき上がり！
最後にご希望に応じて天然オイルを塗ります。

今度はお箸入れを作ります。
お箸入れの友禅染です。
箸入れの上に型紙を置き、染料を摺り込んでいきます。

お箸入れの完成です！
とても達成感があります。

JR京都駅からのアクセス。
地下構内から市営地下鉄「烏丸線」に乗り、国際会館方面に乗車。
1）「烏丸御池」下車の場合、徒歩にて西へ10分弱。
2）「烏丸御池」から「東西線」に乗り換え、二条城方面に乗車。次駅の「二条城前」駅で下車。

* 徒歩にて南東へ10分ほど歩きますが、1）烏丸御池での下車が便利です。

Lots of fun in a beautiful Kyoto workshop!

The setting is stunning—a collection of small buildings set in a garden alleyway—and the staff are helpful. We enjoyed making the chopsticks but loved dyeing the carrybags for the chopsticks even more. Would love to come back to try a dyeing activity at this workshop!

They had all the instructions in English so it was super easy to follow and the staff were all so lovely. It does take a while to get the hang of. All up it took 2 and a half hours to make. Would definitely recommend to anyone that is sick of looking at temples and shrines.

Loved being able to do something crafty in Kyoto! While the instructors didn’t speak english, there were English instruction handouts and it was still a great experience. You get to choose what shape of chopstick you want to make and then you paint a case for your new chopsticks. I would say while it wasn’t hard, it was still challenging enough to be fun for anyone to participate

Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto!
