  3. Board the Arakawa Mountain Bus
    Transfer from Yakusugi Museum to Arakawa Trailhead by bus. In summer, daylight begins just before the trek starts.
  4. Arrive at Arakawa Trailhead → Start on the old rail path
    Flush toilets are available. The trek begins on a flat railway path. In winter, sunrise occurs mid-way through this path.
  5. Kosugidani Bridge → Kosugidani Village Ruins
    A historical logging village that once housed about 540 residents in 1960.
  6. Kusugawa Junction → Sandai Sugi (Three Generations Cedar)
    Bio-toilets are available. After a short walk, you’ll encounter this unique multi-generational cedar tree.
  7. Nioh Sugi → Enter the Ohkabu Trail
    Pass the mighty Nioh Sugi, resembling a guardian statue. The steep ascent begins here. Be sure to use the last toilet before continuing—no toilets for the next 5 hours (toilet booths available).
  8. Okina Sugi (Elder Cedar) Ruins
    A 2,000-year-old cedar that fell in 2009 but still retains its majestic presence.
  9. Wilson Stump
    Named after U.S. botanist Ernest Wilson. Look up from inside to find the famous heart shape!
  10. Daiō Sugi (Great King Cedar)
    A massive 3,000-year-old tree standing 25 meters tall with a 16-meter girth.
  11. Meoto Sugi (Married Couple Cedar)
    Two trees joined around 10 meters above ground, resembling a couple holding hands.
  12. Jomon Sugi
    The largest and most famous cedar on Yakushima. Its powerful presence will leave a lasting impression.
  13. Descent via the same trail
    Take caution on the return—fatigue can increase the risk of slips. In winter, sunset occurs near the end of the rail path.
  14. Arrive at Arakawa Trailhead → Board the mountain bus
    In summer, you’ll return to your hotel before sunset.

  17. Iwai-no-Ōiwa → Hiryuu Otoshi → Satsuki Suspension Bridge
    Admire the massive rock, roaring waterfall, and pristine river below the bridge.

    A cedar with a tunnel-like root you can walk through—formed by decayed fallen trees.
  19. Shiratani Mountain Hut
    A simple rest lodge with clean water. You may spot Yakushima deer nearby.
  20. Nanahon Sugi → Mossy Forest (Mononoke Forest)
    The most magical section of the trail, with over 600 types of moss in a mystical atmosphere.

  • This is a long and physically demanding course. Please apply only if you are confident in your physical fitness.
  • Pregnant individuals cannot participate in this tour.

  • Please make sure to call the tour operator after arriving in Yakushima to confirm your participation. If no contact is made, the booking may be automatically canceled.
  • The pick-up time shown at the time of booking is tentative. The exact pick-up time will be confirmed the day before the tour.
  • In the event of cancellations by other participants, it may become difficult to operate the tour for a single guest.
    If this occurs, the tour operator will contact you in advance.
  • Children 10 years old and above can participate in this activity.

    Wear lightweight, quick-drying synthetic clothing suitable for movement.
    Bring extra socks in case they get wet.

Additional notes

  • As the trekking tour involves a long duration, please take extra care of your health and safety throughout the tour.
  • Participation may be declined at the guide’s discretion if a guest’s clothing, physical condition, or behavior is deemed unsuitable or disruptive to others. In such cases, no refund will be provided.
  • The tour may be canceled or the course may be altered due to weather, road conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Pick-up and drop-off are available only at the same location (hotel).
    If the drop-off location differs from the pick-up point, drop-off service will not be provided. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Guests staying outside the Anbo–Miyanoura area are asked to make their own way to a designated pick-up point within that area.
    The exact meeting location will be arranged after booking.
    *If staying in the Onoaida–Mugio area, please consult with the tour operator in advance, as arrangements will be made on a case-by-case basis.
  • If the tour is canceled after departure due to weather or other conditions, no refund will be provided.
    However, in the event of tour cancellation due to road closures or access restrictions, 80% of the tour fee will be refunded.
  • The tour will be guided mainly in basic English. If communication becomes difficult, translation apps will be used to assist.

Other requirements

  • Guests with physical disabilities or medical conditions are kindly requested to inform the tour operator when making a reservation.
  • Participation may be refused at the guide’s discretion if a guest’s clothing, physical condition, or behavior is deemed inappropriate or disruptive to others. In such cases, no refunds will be issued.
  • Should the guide judge that a guest's attire is unsuitable for trekking, participation may be declined for the guest and all accompanying members of the same group.
